The Basin How we buy About FAQ Get an offer

Williston Basin

We buy in the Bakken. That is the whole map.

Fort Union does not shop twenty basins. Offers are written on Middle Bakken and Three Forks minerals and royalties in North Dakota and eastern Montana — priced from the well file, not a flyer.

Why Bakken mineral rights still matter

The Bakken is a self-sourced tight-oil system. Light, sweet crude. Horizontal laterals at roughly 9,000 to 11,000 feet in the core. Remaining value is in producing decimals, held minerals, and leftover locations in existing spacing units.

Operators in the play include Chord Energy, Continental Resources, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and Devon. We underwrite the operator as carefully as the geology.

The Bakken and Three Forks stack we price

Upper Bakken

Organic-rich shale. Source rock and seal, typically 5–25 feet.

Middle Bakken

Primary horizontal target. Siltstone, dolomite, and sandstone, 10–50 feet in the core.

Lower Bakken

Second source shale. Helps charge both the Middle Bakken and Three Forks.

Three Forks

Devonian benches beneath the Bakken. Upper bench is the workhorse; we price remaining locations by unit.
