The Basin How we buy About FAQ Get an offer

FAQ

Straight answers before you send a deed.

What do you actually buy?
Mineral interests, royalty interests, non-participating royalties, and overrides in the Bakken and Three Forks — North Dakota and the Montana counties listed on The Basin page. We do not buy working interests or operate wells.
Do you buy non-producing minerals?
Yes. Undeveloped minerals are priced on remaining locations, the operator, and how the unit is held.
How do you come up with a number?
Title first, then production and inventory. We decline existing wells from public data and count remaining Bakken and Three Forks locations in the spacing unit.
How long does an offer take?
If the legal is clean and the well file is public, often three to five business days.
How long to close?
Twenty-one to forty-five days after you accept, in the ordinary case. We pay standard closing costs on deals we complete.
Is there a minimum acreage?
No hard floor. A two-acre NPRI in a core unit can be worth more than forty undeveloped acres on the edge.
I inherited the minerals. Can you still buy?
Yes. We work with personal representatives and heirs. You will need authority to convey.
Is this a lease?
No. We buy the interest itself, in fee, for cash. After closing you are out of the tract.
Are you a broker?
No. Fort Union buys as principal with its own capital. We do not charge a commission.
